Perspective

Dinner last night was not great -- DB and I ended up fighting -- a ruined anniversary in some ways -- I cried a lot and we didn't go to sleep until after 1. But this morning dwelling on this seems very unimportant: my dear assistant's "love of her life" was killed in a car accident. None of our petty hurts, angers, misunderstandings seem very important when something like that happens.

So today, DB and I have a do-over date -- to celebrate the 1st day of Year 5. :-)

(And The Cool One is in town to visit with us too.)

Let's all be sure to remember today what's really important -- the ones we love. And let them know with word and deed because life is too damn short.

WOW. I am so sorry for your assistant's loss. And, what a perspective we all need to have all the time. Sorry about your dinner but the do-over is sure to be much better. Just getting caught up, Catalina sounds so romantic. I read a book called Something Foolish Something Gay when I was a young girl. About a teenage romance. They went to Catalina for a picnic. It was a great book. Hope your evening goes well.

I'm so sorry for your assistant's loss. I know you'll be a big help to her.

You know, maybe you and DB were just having a delayed reaction to his dad's death and all of the activities around that. It's been a stressful couple of weeks (good and bad stress). I'm sorry you two had an argument but I'm glad you are going to have a do-over.

Have fun!

Lori has a very good point. Especially if the fight was out of the ordinary - or about something that would normally be "no big deal".

there was a commercial running a while back where a pregnant lady is craving ice cream (or something similar) and her husband backs the car down the driveway to go get it and is killed in a massive wreck (at the end of his driveway). The commercial was probably for seat belts or drunk driving - but the message was about how unexpected these things are. A toddler from church drowned in his grandparent's pool this week. he was the youngest of 11 kids. it was a huge family gathering - tons of people In and Around the pool. He didn't even like the water or swimming. They have no idea how/what happened. it was ruled accidental. this end of town is very much a community - everyone knows everyone else. everyone is still shaken from the unexpected, really sad loss.
